JPS Holds C Rating While Looking Ahead to Increased Performance

The Jackson Public School District maintained its “C” rating for the 2024 – 2025 school year, according to the Mississippi Department of Education accountability model. Recently released data from the spring administration of the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) and MDE accountability ratings show several areas of notable performance, including:
- Overall increased proficiency in US History.
- Sixth Grade English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency increased by more than 6%.
- Sixth Grade Math rose for the second consecutive year, up 3.3%.
- Fourth Grade Math proficiency grew by more than 5.6%.
- Obama Magnet School ranked number 10 in the state.
Although there were areas of improvement, there was also a slight decline in our Mathematics proficiency (–0.7%), and a decline in Science proficiency (–4.8%), an area in which scholars have typically performed best. JPS educators have already begun implementing a robust plan to enhance instruction and dramatically increase scholar performance across all subject areas. Superintendent Dr. Errick L. Greene stated, “We celebrate the progress we’ve made and acknowledge the areas where greater focus is needed. These results give us clear direction for how we can continue to improve, and we are already implementing a districtwide plan to strengthen teaching and learning and to support scholars in reaching their highest potential.”
